The Vision Of Elena Zang

The Elena Zang Memorial Fund Supporting The Beating Heart Of CMS

Our first live workshop in 1973 was in the Woodstock area. This region is our home and where our heart lies. And no matter how far CMS travels online and offline, this magical area will always be our home.

With its space and natural sounds and silence, there is perhaps no better place to experience the Music Mind and the spirit of CMS than in our home, here in Woodstock.

So, as we grow everywhere else, we want to grow here too.

We want to revitalize our presence in this region, bring the spirit of CMS back to the area, and be a part of elevating all of us here.

That means new workshops and performances. New partnerships with our incredible local institutions, like the Bearsville Theater Applehead Studio, or Hand Bell Studio.

In other words, INVESTING in Woodstock and the surrounding area. FOCUSING on the heart of CMS and the spirit of Woodstock.

Elena never let us forget how important this was.

We created the Elena Zang Memorial Fund to support her vision for us.

We created this fund to honor our roots and root our future in this region. We created it to celebrate Elena.

If you knew Elena or can understand what a vibrant CMS presence would do for this area, please help us celebrate Elena and her love and vision for CMS here in our Woodstock home.

Will you donate to the Elena Zang Memorial Fund and support Elena's vision?

"Elena was a big supporter of the Creative Music Studio from the very beginning in the early 70s, a tireless communicator and avid listener. She served on the CMS Board of Directors for many years. While we, the artists, were opening our minds to the exciting revelations coming out of emphasizing the universality of sound and music and thereby creating world-wide communications and meetings, her mind was always focused on supporting local events in the Woodstock area.

For her, the Creative Music Studio was simply another level of musical communications beyond narrow stylistic boundaries, and she wanted the music generated out of the CMS spirit to be heard in the local Woodstock/New York community. The Elena Zang Memorial Fund literally continues what Elena has always done: financially supporting events, large and small, that feature adventurous music by some of the leading musicians of creative music. She was a close friend and we miss her very much"

"Elena was a heart friend, we were very close, studying percussion together, eating together, hanging out together. Her love for music and art was unique. I will never understand that she is not here anymore."
