In honor of Karl Berger’s 90th birthday we are partnering with former CMS student and producer, Axel Kroell and filmmaker Julian Benedikt (Blue Note – A Story of Modern Jazz) to present the award winning film Karl Berger – Music Mind. CMS receives 50% of all revenue generated from viewers.
CMS is celebrating VIO/LA on April 25 & 26 in Brooklyn! A concert will be held on April 25 at 8:30pm at Ibeam Brooklyn, with a workshop the following day on April 26 from 12-2pm; open to all violinists & violists of all ages & musical backgrounds! Tell your fellow fiddles, students, and lovers of violin and viola music!
Join us in concert AND in workshop with VIO/LA luminaries: Jessica Pavone, Charles Burnham, Che Buford, Alex Cunningham, Trina Basu, Jason Kao Hwang, Sana Nagano, Arun Ramamurthy, and Ana Luisa Díaz de Cossío Sánchez. Tickets for both the concert and workshop will be available at the door for $20 (sliding scale is available!).
In honor of Karl Berger, Peter Apfelbaum leads the Creative Music Studio Improvisers Orchestra featuring vocalist Ingrid Sertso at Handbell Studio in Kingston, NY! Audience is invited to the open rehearsal from 3-4pm, performance to follow from 4-5pm.

Medeski Martin & Wood percussionist Billy Martin aka illy B will lead a music workshop on May 3rd from 3-6pm.
Participants will be provided with unique bamboo instruments (most specifically percussion and flutes) uniquely designed and built by Martin. The workshop will explore various strategies on collective interplay, polyphony, improvisation, textural sound making and rhythmic harmony (a strategy developed by Martin specifically for improvising music ensembles and music educators).
